Healthy Living - Ellya Sam, Head Trainer for Barre, Blok London

Bio

Ellya is the Head Trainer for Barre at Blok London. She was awarded Instructor of the Year on Classpass in 2018 and nominated again in 2019 for Best Instructor in London. She has been featured in British Vogue, Time Out London and The Evening Standard and has taught her method of barre globally.

Are you working from home, and if so, do you have any advice to stay focused?

Yes, I am! I've been teaching Barre classes and PTs online from home. It's challenging breaking up what work and rest is, so, to stay focused, my one advice is to make sure to take breaks between you work day and ensure you take time for yourself too (as the day can seem really long when stuck at home). I've been taking one class a day on BLOKtv, making sure to keep myself engaged by doing a different style of class each day.

Have you been able to expand your creativity this year, and if so, how?

I've been cooking and creating barre class content over on my instagram a lot (@ellyasam). It's been so lovely having the time to cook up a storm in the kitchen and before I know it I've made an entire meal from scratch!

What is your WFH attire?

I am very honoured to be a lululemon ambassador and regardless of whether I am working from home or at the studio, you'll always catch me in workout gear. Now that I'm working from home, I'm in a comfy tank top (align tank) and a pair of loungers (align joggers/on the fly).

Exercise tips?

Keep consistent and plan ahead. It's always important to make sure that you plan your exercise classes a week in advance, then you have something to look forward to. It can also be helpful to get your friends or partner involved (maybe do a pilates date), this way you can keep accountable and it's also fun to workout with friends!

What's your go-to Winter recipe?

Definitely a soup! Recently I've been trying to perfect the ultimate tomato soup. Slow roasted onions, tomatoes and garlic, then blended with a bit of vegetable stock, served with lots of pepper and garlic bread! I've been playing around with this simple recipe, maybe adding roasted peppers in there too!
