Introducing our latest Artist Edition in collaboration with Paris-based American artist Jason Glasser - a creator internationally recognised for work that merges sound, colour and space.

Together, we've translated his bold visual language into four exclusive cashmere pieces, from lightweight scarves to cashmere knitwear for men and for women, each one responsibly crafted in our Scottish mills. A meeting of shared values - craftsmanship, colour and creativity.

Do the original artworks have titles, and could you share more details about the materials you used to create them?

JG

The artworks are titled Dunes and Moonrise. Dunes was originally painted with gouache on paper, while Moonrise was created as a collage of colored paper. Both pieces grow out of my practice of arranging broad shapes of color to evoke space and movement.

I often develop compositions on paper before transposing them onto canvas, fabric, wood, netting, or glass.

How did you approach adapting your artworks with the Begg x Co design team into cashmere designs?

JG

We collaborated to translate the gouache, and collage works into cashmere designs.

In perfecting the lightweight scarves and knitwear, great care was taken to preserve the freehand quality of the artworks. The subtle asymmetry and varied proportions remain, retaining the vitality and attitude of the originals, translated through cashmere.

Can you share the inspiration or story behind each of the pieces in our capsule collection?

JG

Dunes is an interconnected design reminiscent of the yin-yang symbol or the astrological sign for Pisces. It was actually inspired by a Chladni figure — an image of a sound wave made visible with sand. The arrangement of colors invites the viewer to see the shapes as overlapping, like a landscape of smooth hills, or to feel a gentle sense of movement, like an ocean breeze.

Moonrise features a circle and two partial circles arranged in a vertical sequence, like frames from a film. The image is meant to evoke the moon and its gradual movement. The close color palette and subtle contrast draw the eye into the atmosphere of the work. The composition renews itself, rising and falling, rewarding attention like looking at the ever-changing sky.
