Friends of Begg x Co - Brock DeHaven

Brock DeHaven is a freelance photographer, creative director and model based in Los Angeles. Brock recently took a road trip along the Californian coast with his Begg x Co essentials.

Our spring/summer 2022 collection is inspired by travel and tactile experiences of other cultures. Where is your favourite place to travel/explore?

My favorite place to explore is the Pacific Coast Highway. I’ve been on it all the way from San Diego to Oregon and never get tired of it. Big Sur and the south coast of Oregon hold a special place in my heart. I really love traveling anywhere, but Hawaii and Amsterdam have been some of my other favorite spots.

What are your travel essentials?

A film camera, a sweater, a pair of denim jeans, white sneakers, Birkenstocks, headphones and a journal.

How did you get into photography? Where do you draw your inspiration from?

I took a gap year after I graduated high school and began documenting my life through my iPhone and really fell in love with photography. From there my interest grew and then I took a film photography class during my freshman year of College that really solidified my passion for the medium. I draw inspiration from the ocean, the mountains, the desert, great photo books and films.

You recently relocated from New York to LA. Do you have any advice for setting up a new home?

Make sure you love everything you have. I have really taken my time in setting up my place because I want to find pieces that bring me joy. I think listen to your intuition on what makes you feel best in your home and how you use the space, not how you think the space should be used. A home should feel comfortable and functional.

What tones/colours do you gravitate towards when choosing a piece for your home?

I always gravitate towards neutral tones when I am choosing a piece for my home. I have a lot of beige and brown and grey and a few accent pieces that are white and black. Some may find it boring, but I think the space feels warm and inviting, and it makes me feel calm, which is my ultimate goal with any space I design.

For you, how important is sustainability when selecting a new piece of clothing or accessory?

Sustainability is one of the most important things for me when selecting a new piece of clothing. As I’ve learned more about the fashion industry through the years, I’ve come to understand the need for our planet to support ethical, sustainable and local fashion. I’ve truly become a minimalist in my wardrobe over the past two years, and now I only take in pieces that I know I will have forever. While it is definitely more expensive to purchase sustainable clothing, it is an investment that I want to make for the longevity of not only the garment, but of the planet.

What are your favourite pieces from our spring/summer 2022 collection?

I love the Slub Crew Sweater, the Aalto Poloshirt and the Arran Rowan Oversize Cashmere Scarf.

At Begg x Co, we encourage self-expression and champion authentic living through artisanal products that make people feel good physically and emotionally. What item of clothing or accessory makes you feel this way?

A great sweater always makes me feel my best.
