Five Recipes for Christmas Cheer

Five Recipes for Christmas Cheer

Spread comfort and joy this season and enjoy these small, simple pleasures wherever you call home.

Warm your cockles by the fire

When it’s cold and wet, there’s nothing we love more than cosying up beside a roaring fire with a good book and a big blanket. Our Arran Throws are soft and inviting and will help keep you warm long after the embers of the fire have died out. For what to read, check out our Book Club picks.

Mix up a classic

Got the sniffles? Many Scots believe the hot toddy can cure a cold. While we can neither confirm nor deny this much-touted remedy, there’s nothing quite like it when you need reviving. Comforting and warming, Victoria Moore describes it in her book, How to Drink, as an effective elixir thanks to a mixture of: "the vitamin C for health, the honey to soothe, the alcohol to numb." We like this recipe.

Get some fresh air

Got the Winter blues? A brisk, bracing walk always helps clear the cobwebs when we’re feeling out of sorts. We’re partial to a coastal route – even on a windy day, the spray from the sea helps bring us back to life and makes the hot drink waiting for us at home extra-rewarding. Even better, take a flask with you and stop to admire the view. Don’t forget to layer up with one of our Winter scarves.

Say it with flowers

Brighten up your home by gathering your own wild winter bouquet. Get creative and forage locally for flowers, berries and foliage that will last you through Christmas and into the New Year. Get into the habit of carrying a pair of secateurs in your pocket and be ready to forage in hedgerows, trees and flower beds. Make them last longer by preserving in glycerine and water. Read more in our Nature feature.

Start a new tradition

Christmas is all about the familiar, a nostalgic time that encourages us to look back. It’s also a chance to try something new and create memories for next year and beyond. Always wanted to make your own decorations? There’s no time like the present (pun intended).

How do you celebrate this time of year? We’d love to hear your stories.

Merry Christmas from Begg x Co
